Less data can be more user friendly

When you right click on an object and choose "View detailed information on the object" you get all available data displayed in the right hand view pane. This can be a lot of data and finding what you are looking for involves scanning or scrolling through data you don't need to find the data you do need. I understand that different people will want different information, so being able to access all data for an object is necessary. However, having to scan or scroll through all available data is laborious. I think it would be very helpful if you could set up a filter for object data so the "View detailed information on the object" enquiry returns only the data you've specified in the filter. This would save time and help all users, especially those new to model viewing software.

Hi Robert, Thanks for your interesting suggestion. This kind of functionality would certainly improve on searching of desired object information. We'll add this on the list of possibilities for the future releases. BR Heikki

If producing less details without omiting lesser enquired info turns out to be a complex fix wouldnt it be easier to reconfigure how Bimsight lists the details so that all the basic and most sought after info is listed first. For all of my customers enquiring BIM models, they would want to see; profile, name, grade, finish, part T.O.S, phase, lot, weight, length, overall surface area and profile properties (limited to flange, and web thk/s and root radi), in pretty much taht order with everything else listed below in order of popularity.

I raised this issue two years ago and it is very dissappointing that no progress has been made with it at all. Is anyone in the BIMsight team monitoring this forum and realising the frustration of users?

Hello, we have started just started to use Tekla BIMsight at building site, and its just to much detailed information for the workers. because of this, we are still heading back to Public Web Viewer(Web based model in IE from Tekla Structures). Now we have a model that is big, so a Public Web Viewer is not an option. Is there any timeframe for when this will be fix? Would be best if this was an option in BIMsight.

Tekla BIMsight team I raised the original post 2 years and 4 months ago. The intial (and only) response from Heikki Pulkkinen seemed quite positive. Unfortunately since then, and despite the views expressed by other users and 62 votes being cast for this suggestion, there appears to have been nothing done. Is there any possibility this matter will be developed or am I, and the others, just waiting for something that will never happen?

Hello,it would be realy very helpful if I could set up a filter for object data. There is too much information in the list. Please can you add this option to the BIMsight?

My original post is now approaching its' third anniversary and despite two polite requests for feedback, plus 65 votes from other users which puts it fourth in the most voted for requests, there has been no reponse from the Tekla BIMsight team. Can someone in the Tekla BIMsight team at least do me the courtesy of responding?

It does need tweaking. Surley the most needed informatin on a particular a part would be its Mark and profile, maybe its level. Everything else would be rarely used ad could be hidden away in another tab. We want to try rolling our BIMsight to our site staff but the difficulty to access simple important info is putting them off. Even better would be the ability to have the Assembly Marks labelled on the member. With the marks "hugging" the memeber on the correct stamped end.

I take your point Richard and agree with your suggestions - our site teams are also really frustrated that what they used to be able to do very simply and quickly using Struwalker can't be done as easily or quickly in BIMsight. I made my original observation and suggestion more than 3 years ago and the one and only response from the BIMsight team was to say "Thanks for your interesting suggestion. This kind of functionality would certainly improve on searching of desired object information. We'll add this on the list of possibilities for the future releases". Since then I've asked a number of times but have not had any further response to the question and not seen any change in the subsequent version releases - we're now using v.1.9.3. This is extremely dissappointing to put it mildly. Is anyone in the BIMsight team prepared to deal with this or are we all just wasting our time asking? Robert

I think your original suggestion has a lot of merit Robert. Having worked in a drafting office when BIMsight was originally launched, and much lauded - I have noticed that in more recent versions (working for a fabricator/erector now), that some information has disappeared... This has become extremely embarassing professionally as I pushed for Tekla-based drawings to be provided for the workshop, with a view to facilitating erection using BIMsight. You can no longer locate the parts by their respective part position or assembly position number. It was a very handy link to drawings provided, and also uploaded into BIMsight where parts/assemblies could be linked directly to their drawings. Previously, you were also able to sort all parts by position numbers, rather than by Author or date etc. Why has this functionality been removed? Given fabricators and erectors refer to these details foremost for identification - why are they not even an option now in BIMsight? I cannot find such details for individual parts/assemblies anywhere now. It's as if they have been completed removed from BIMsight (I downloaded the most recent version today).
